Kromek Group, a developer of radiation and biodetection technologies, has entered into multiyear agreements with Siemens Healthineers that it said will generate more than $37.5 million.
The deal will make way for the in-house production of cadmium zinc telluride (CZT) material for gamma-ray detectors used in SPECT systems. Under the terms of the agreement, Siemens Healthineers will license Kromek’s technology to produce CZT, which will extend its research, development, and manufacturing capabilities to allow for a potential future line of gamma-ray detectors for multimodal SPECT systems.
Siemens said the CZT research efforts will run in parallel with continued development of its sodium iodide SPECT technologies. Kromek will provide 15 of its furnaces dedicated to CZT crystal growing to Siemens Healthineers.
The agreement will make the company profitable from the current financial year, Kromek said. It intends to continue producing CZT detectors for the SPECT and CT imaging markets with the remaining 159 furnaces it owns.
The company reported 3.7 million pounds ($4.6 million U.S.) for the first half of the 2025 fiscal year, along with 5.7 million pounds ($7.1 million U.S.) in before-tax losses.
